Mr. Bascomb’s recounting of the events that led up to and followed Dr. Bannister’s historic, spring-1954 run of 3:59.4 at Iffley Road Track in Oxford (England, UK) combines a reporter’s skill in telling the story and a historian’s penchant for connecting details from original and secondary sources.
