HB, Bo Diddley

Bo Diddley, who was born Ellas Otha Bates on this day in 1928 in McComb (MS, US), has had a substantial influence on the American music of which I fond. According to the Wikipedia entry, Mr. Diddley (teehee) was adopted and raised by his mother’s cousin, Gussie McDaniel and he took her surname. So Ellas Bates = Ellas McDaniel = Bo Diddley. I remember coming upon an LP with a string on his hits (“Bo Diddley” and “I am a Man”) while flipping through records with my high-school friend Peter at a discount store; Peter knew about Bo Diddley and so he bought it.
