Multi-touch interface

In a March 2007 entry, I expressed my optomism about multi-touch technology in general and the work of Jeff Han, especially. Well, multi-touch interfaces appear to be about to burst dramatically into devices. In “Personal Tech 2008: Top 10 Trends,” Mike Elgan of ComputerWorld reminded me:

How about translating the Bible into LOLCat speak? A fellow identifying himself as “Zotnik” has created the conceptual mash-up of these two popular Internet topics. Zotnik created a wiki where one can contribute to the project.

Welcom to Teh Holiez Bibul

Hai! Teh blessigs of teh Ceiling Cat b pwn u, lol! This is a new translation wiki to get the entire Bible translated into kitty pidgin (the language of lolcats). Zotnix saw a link to a picture with this done to Genesis and thought, “Why not the whole darned book?” Well, here is that effort.

The wiki effort is predicated on a photo by Ted Stoltz, a fellow who does graphic design, music, satire, and rants pretty well; Mr. Stoltz created an image of the first page of a Bible with the text written in LOLCat speak. (This image points to Mr. Stoltz’s original; look at it to see the text at a readable size.)

I especially liked the section on learning to speak lolcat. Also, I hasten to note that there is a bit of restraint evidenced on the wiki; there are guidelines for translations. You can reach both of these features from the navigation element.

Check lolcatbible. Although I’m reluctant to make fun of something that’s really important to others (it feels like mocking, as others have noted), it’s a hoot; I think that’s more because of the parody of LOL Cats than of the Bible. A fellow atheist named Martin Grondin openly owns up to creating the wiki project; here’s a link to Mr. Grondin’s personal site; apparently he’s collaborated to some extent with Mr. Stoltz.
