Jackie Robinson

Image courtesy US Library of CongressBorn 31 January 1919 in Cairo, GA (US), Jackie Robinson is justifiably celebrated for his accomplishments in sports, especially baseball. Truth be told, his contributions to civil rights deserve at least equal recognition, in my view. As I noted earlier, in the 1940s he refused to relinquish a seat at the front of a bus. And after his retirement form baseball, he promoted civil rights efforts in the US.
