Susan B. Anthony

S. B. Anthony; from US Library of Congress; click for full-sized imageSusan B. Anthony was born on this day in 1820 in Massachusetts. As the daughter of a progressive and a Quaker abolistionist (according to the Wikipedia entry), she probably came by her views about women’s suffrage from her up-bringing. However she got it, she became a marvelous advocate of the civil rights of women. Imagine, for example, being tried for having voted in a US presidential election!

So, happy birthday, Ms. Anthony. Thanks to you, we’re all a bit freer.
