At the TJ awards ceremony

View of the stage

I had the pleasure and honor of watching the awarding of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals and Prizes late this morning. The ceremony is held every year on 13 April in honor of both the recipients and Mr. Jefferson’s birthday. The medals recognize people who are eminent (and they are eminent individuals) in areas the Thomas Jefferson Foundation considers to have been of particular interest to Mr. Jefferson: architecture, law, and citizen leadership.

Pictured here (l-r) are

  • Joseph Neubauer, recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Citizen Leadership;
  • Janet Napolitano, recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Law;
  • Edward O. Wilson, recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture;
  • John Casteen (at lecturn), president of the University of Virginia;
  • Leslie Greene Bauman, president of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation;
  • Paul G. Mahoney, dean of the School of Law at the University of Virginia; and
  • Kim Tanzer, dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia.

To read about the recipients, see names of past recipients, and learn more about the awards, please see Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals Ceremony (note that this link for the 2010 ceremony will probably be replaced by new content in subsequent years).
